The cool blue mountains of the Nilgiri Hills are often referred as the lungs of South India. Coonor has aJain community of 105 families and boasts of an incomparable temple complex spread over a sprawling area of 2 acres, comprising of Sri Munisuvrat Swamiji Temple, Sri Jinduttsuriji Dadavadi and Sri Shantisuriswarji Guru Mandir.
Sri Shantisuriswarji's temple was consercrated on 13.5.1998 by his holiness Acharya Sri Ashokratnasuriswarji Maharaj. The idol of Sri Gurudev is of white marble. It is 41 inches in height and in padmasan. The beauty and radiance of the idol meserises the beholder and has to be seen to be believed. The temple is surrounded by kush green valleys and hills and the sights are breathtaking. One can see that the endearing heights of Mount Abu and the peaceful bliss of Mandoli are recreated here at Sri Gurudev's temple in Coonoor.
The administration of the temple is looked after by Sri Jain Swetambar Moorthi Poojak Sangh, Tain Temple, Balaclava, Coonoor. Coonoor is easily accessible by road and the world famous mountain railway. The easiest way to reach Coonoor is from Coimbatore (70 kms) which is well connected by air, rail and road to all parts of India. Other major cities near Coonoor are Ooty (17 kms) and Mysore (175 km).
